Unstable as Water Genesis 49:4
Of the many expressive symbolic phrases we find in the Bible, one of the most interesting is Jacob’s description of Reuben: “Unstable as water, you shall not excel.” Water is very unstable and represents qualities of character that are the opposite of what the Lord wants in His people. When water gets hot it steams. When it gets cold it hardens. Water follows the path of least resistance, takes whatever shape surrounds it, and readily becomes vapor. Our God is a rock, and we are stable if our rely on Him. Genesis 49:4

If You are Unstable as Water…
When things get hot you let off steam. (Ecclesiastes 7:9; Proverbs 14:17; 16:32) When it is cold around you, you harden. (Prov. 21:29; Rom. 12:19; 1 Peter 3:8-9) You follow the course of least resistance. (Proverbs 2:14-15; 2 Timothy 4:3; Eph. 2:3) You take the shape of whatever surrounds you. (Judges 2:11-12; 2 Kings 17:15; 1 Peter 4:3-5; Romans 12:2) You easily become vapor. (Jude 12; Ps. 62:9)

Our God is a ROCK “He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.” – Ps. 62:6-9
