Professional Background
20 years experience teaching 14 years teaching Kindergarten 7th year in Kyrene School District Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from ASU Endorsement in Early Childhood and English As a Second Language

Personal Background Grew up in Warner Ranch neighborhood Alumni of Pueblo and Corona del Sol. My husband and I have an 8 year old son named Emmet and a dog named Bella.

… Emotional and Social Development
Kindergarten is the foundation of your child’s learning experience. They learn how to be a student. They learn how to be a part of a community (classroom). They learn how to share and get along. Our goal is to make sure we create a positive learning community.

Mariposa is implementing a school-wide PBIS program
What is PBIS? Positive Behavior Intervention System Focuses on positive rewards for good behavior Creates a plan for “teaching” appropriate student behaviors Creates a plan to address undesirable student behaviors through teacher and administrative interventions Lesson plans build on Mariposa LifeSkills Consistency throughout the school All staff expectations are the same, using the same language and the same series of rewards and consequences

Fine motor: Through writing, coloring, cutting, visual perception, PLAY-DOH and LEGOS (pencil grasp strength and technique) Gross motor: PE and recess

Curriculum Reading: CKLA Curriculum, Phonemic Awareness, Sharing Literature, Early Literacy Skills & Application, Reading Groups, Daily Writing Journals. Whole group and small group differentiated instruction. Math: Investigations and Cognitive Guided Instruction Curriculum, Begins with manipulatives and progresses to pencil and paper activities along with Instructional Focus Groups. Daily Math Calendar Activities and small group differentiated instruction.

Computer Science Immersion Program
Using the Power of Computers to Solve Problems Students will learn fundamental computer science concepts and digital citizenship/internet safety practices, while developing their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Quarter 1 Quarter 2 Quarters 3 & 4 Introduction to Computer Science Concepts Code.org Computer Science Grade Level Fundamentals Course Integrated Computer Science Learning Lessons Scratch Jr mini-lessons addressing science and social studies standards Integrated Computer Science Learning Projects CS concepts and skills will be taught through technology based integrated projects that address both science and social studies standards Integrated lessons and projects will be implemented during the Extended Learning block and weekly Computer Lab time Combination of unplugged (hands-on lessons without a computer) and plugged lessons on the computer

Curriculum Centers: Students participate in a variety of centers each day. Centers are self managed and based upon objectives taught earlier in the day or week for reinforcement. Writing Activities: Daily Journal Writing, Personal Narrative and Non-fiction, Individual and class books, sight word book, journals, dictation, respond to literature, and spelling of “tricky words”. Integrated Units: Author Studies, Colors, Nursery Rhymes, The 5 Senses, Shapes, Plants, Farms, Native Americans, Kings and Queens, Seasons and Weather, Taking Care of the Earth, Presidents and American symbols

Progress Reports Conferences: Fall and Spring
Report Cards: January and May Which follow the newly adopted Common Core Standards in reading and math.

Homework Once a week on Friday’s and return by Friday.
It should take 15 minutes plus 15 minutes of reading. “Homework Space” with child-size seat. Reinforces skills

Make an “I Can Read” box at home
Paper books at your child’s reading level will be sent home and should become a part of a collection that your child can read on their own. These provide a review of sight words, build reading fluency and comprehension as well as reading confidence and the habit of reading.

Absences Please make sure to call and report absences to the office first. Absence line Request homework

Keeping Us Informed Make sure your emergency and contact information is current. To ensure your child’s safety please keep us informed of any changes regarding dismissal. Changes need to be in writing. We can only release your child to people listed on their emergency card.

Teacher-Parent Communication
Check and empty Folders and Backpacks daily for finished work, newsletters and forms to complete. Weekly s will be sent out to inform you of the Sounds, Letters, Tricky Words and Math Skills we are focusing on.

Birthdays Invitations Goodies
We CANNOT, WILL NOT, DO NOT hand out birthday invitations at school. This is a district policy, Please do not ask us to do so! Thanks Goodies There are no edible treats. May donate a book to our Classroom Library in honor of your child’s special day.

Nutrition Snacks Small and healthy in a baggie that is separate from lunch and labeled. Consumed within 5 minutes Water ONLY Donations are appreciated Lunches Can pay ahead and online Lunch money in Red Folder Checks- write student’s & teachers name
