Agenda Do Now(on worksheet): Describe how you would feel if someone told you that you were destined to do something great (e.g., the next big sports star, inventor, doctor). Please explain what you were destined to do(e.g., cure cancer, play a sport professionally) and what steps would you take to achieving this. Hand out E.Q. Sheets. Complete close reading on Manifest Destiny. Homework: E.Q. sheet due March 21. Complete Sections of Close reading packet that were not finished for homework.

Discussion Question: Manifest Destiny and City on a hill
Compare John Winthop’s vision of a “city on a hill” (marked in bold in Paragraph 2) and O’Sullivan’s desire for more western lands. On packet identify the key idea of Winthrop’s writings and Sullivan’s. How are these views similar? In what way do these views differ?
