Communication with coaches
Our Mission: Preemptive communication from the Coach can decrease the need for Parents to seek out one-on-ones with the coach. No. 1: It’s very important that Parents always remember their focus is on one player out of say 15 players whereas the coach’s focus is on 15 players. So your child is getting a 15th of the attention while you’re focused on one. No. 2: Don’t communicate from a point of confrontation. Come from the point of “How can I help this situation? … I just want to help my son or daughter improve and I want to help you help them, so what do you see with my son/daughter that will help them get more playing time?'" No. 3: Keep emotions in check. After Practices or through are the best times to discuss questions with Coaches. Keep in mind that after games are not a great time since emotions on both sides can be high. Keep it positive for everyone. 24 Hour Rule. No. 4: Encourage Player Responsibility. Encourage the Players to be more responsible, and to go to the Coach and ask, “Can I talk to you?” No. 5: Keep Parent to Parent communications positive and not as a medium to air problems. If you have an issue, go talk to that Coach. If a resolve is not reached, feel free to discuss with a Board Member or Athletic Director. No. 6: The Ride Home. Control frustrations with your children -- especially on the ride home from a game. If your child is bummed that he didn’t play much in the game, don’t console him/her by disparaging the Coach. We must all be 100% supportive of our Players when they get into the car. Don’t try to give them an analysis or 3rd Degree. Let them talk if they feel like it and listen to them.
