1 Song Numbers

2 Proper Attitudes Toward Sin
Our actions are driven by our attitudes

3 Prov. 4:23 [23] Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

4 Prov. 23:7 [7] For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

5 Our attitude towards sin is very important --- it will help us as we battle sin in our life
THE PROPER ATTITUDE TOWARD SIN IS…..

6 We must admit that we are guilty of sin
I. Admit it We must admit that we are guilty of sin

7 1 Jn. 1:8-10 [8] If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

8 Exodus 32:21, 24 [21] And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them? [24] And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

9 Let’s not blame the environment, society, bad luck, hypocrites, our friends, insanity, our raising, bad social skills, etc., for our sins and transgressions

10 II. Hate it We avoid things we hate

11 Prov. 6:16-19 16] These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: [17] A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, [18] An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, [19] A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

12 Mk. 3:5 [5] And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. Sin stirred Jesus’ soul with righteous indignation -

13 Ps. 101:3 [3] I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. We must hate the sin, but love the sinner –

14 Shun = keep away from – to avoid deliberately
III. Shun it Shun = keep away from – to avoid deliberately

15 1 Th. 5:22 [22] Abstain from all appearance of evil.

16 2 Tim. 2:22 [22] Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

17 Mt 6:13 [13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

18 “In resisting the evil one we cannot give an inch”
IV. Resist it “In resisting the evil one we cannot give an inch”

19 1 Pet. 5:8-9 [8] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: [9] Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

20 Js. 4:7 [7] Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you

21 To show the danger of – to make known
V. Expose it To show the danger of – to make known

22 God condemned sin Rom. 8:3 [3] For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

23 Gospel preachers are to rebuke sin – 2 Tim. 4:1-2
[1] I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; [2] Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

24 All Christians are to reprove sin – Eph. 5:11
11] And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. -”The majority of Christians may obey the first part of this command, but few obey the second part.”

25 VI. Conquer it To overcome by force

26 Rom. 6:1-7 [1] What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? [2] God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

27 [3] Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
[4] Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

28 [5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: [6] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. [7] For he that is dead is freed from sin.

29 What will help us have the proper attitude toward sin?
1. Remember that sin caused the death of Christ 2. Sin is the only thing that will keep us out of heaven 3. Remember that sin is a hard taskmaster in this world 4. See sin as God sees it
