1 Thursday 1/26/17 Notebook Entry: Minerals are the building blocks of most all rocks, but the minerals don’t just put themselves together to make a rock. Make of list of the kinds of Earth materials that you think are involved in making rocks. Have your vocabulary cards out and on your desk: igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic

2 Vocabulary Peer Checklist
Use the checklist to review and give feedback to your classmate. Return the checklist and cards when you are finished reviewing. When you get your cards back make revisions if needed. Turn in the checklist. You keep the notecards.

3 Learning Target I can develop a model to describe the cycling of Earth’s rock-forming materials and the flow of energy that drives the process. Identify the parts involved Describe the relationships between the parts Show time and space it takes to happen

4 Journey on the Rock Cycle
Next week you will roll special dice to create one possible journey that Earth’s materials can take You will have to analyze the steps of your journey to figure out what type of rock you become with each roll of the dice. You will then create a cartoon model to show your journey and understanding of the rock cycle

5 Rock Type Info Quest Purpose of the Info Quest: Examine rocks, research in your textbook/online, and explore rock cycle models to gain a better understanding of: the materials and energy involved in forming rocks the relationships between rock types the amount of time and space it takes to happen

6 Rock Type Info Quest Journal
You will keep track of the information you gain in a mini- journal. Will keep record of key information to help you create your model next week We will be working on the info quest over the next three class days You will be required to turn in your journal

7 Begin Your Rock Type Info Quest!
Now that you have made your journal for the info quest, you will follow the directions on the quest handout to begin exploring, gathering and recording information in your journal.
