1 Bellwork 8/31 Get a post-it and answer these questions on it.
What is your favorite book? It can be a chapter book you have read on your own. It could be a picture book you remember a family member reading to you when you were younger. Why is it your favorite book? It’s our first FLASHLIGHT FRIDAY!! Make sure you have a book to read.

2 THE 500 MINUTE READING CHALLENGE!!!

3 The Google form can be found on my website and our Google classroom.
The Challenge To meet your Reading Goal, students must read for 500 minutes from a variety of genres during the first 9 weeks. Requirements: You must record time spent reading either on a hard copy reading log or fill out the Google form. The Google form can be found on my website and our Google classroom.

4 YOU CAN DO IT!!! You have about 6 weeks left in this 9 weeks.
How can I read 500 minutes worth?? You have about 6 weeks left in this 9 weeks. Even if you ONLY read on school days that’s 30 days!! So… 500 minutes days about 16 minutes a day! If you read EVERY DAY it’s only about 11 minutes a day!! Lots of you read A LOT more than that every day! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

5 To record minutes read…
It must be a book, article, or textbook pages you have read. (math pages do NOT count; science or social studies do count) Be sure to record your reading time. You can use the computer in my classroom to fill out the Google form. **Extra points!! Take an AR Test and score at least 80%. You can add 5 extra minutes for every AR test you take over a book you have read and make an 80% on.

6 How to find the form Go to the LMS website Click “school staff” on the left hand side. Click on my name “Beard, Kimberly” Click the blue “links” icon at the top of my page. Click on your class block “500 minute reading challenge form”

9 When to read: In classes after you finish work.
When you finish bellwork and are waiting on class to start. Students should also be reading some at home.

11 Incentives There will be some sort of reward for students who meet the 500 minute challenge at the end of the 9 weeks. Any questions??

12 Flashlight Friday!! Please find a comfy spot to READ.
You may use a flashlight from home or a flashlight on your phone. Sorry…NO blankets and NO pillows! SCHOOL RULES! Be sure to keep track of your time so you can record it on the Google form! If you are not reading, I will give you an assignment to complete!!!
