The overlaid horizontal lines demarcate the chloride concentrations that define the boundaries between the three CF Foundation reference ranges: the upper (dashed) line (at 60mmol/L) separates those with CF from intermediate sweat tests, and the lower (dotted) line (at 30mmol/L up to 6months of age and at 40mmol/L for those aged 6months and older) separates those with intermediate sweat tests from those unlikely to have CF.
