8 Where is the view from “the Whole” represented in this picture?

10 “Only when we know what we are about will we know what to do and how we are to act. The ethical question should never be our first question (What is the right thing to do).  Rather, the first question is the question of being itself:   What am I?   If we can begin to answer this question in light of the whole with God as Creator and ground of all life, then we will have a better sense of what we are to do and how we are to act. ” Ilia Delio

11 Loving the Other as Self
The body of creation is the firmament which grounds (hosts) our being. Within this physical ground, the Whole of Creation supports a spiritual inside the created cosmos, which evolves as physical body over deep time and spiritual body across deep space. What most liberates is being able to hold the tension of being lost at sea and yet know support from within. When we learn to sail into the vast mystery as our reality, all possibility opens to us. When we leave our small vessels of consciousness, our finite ship, and let the ocean of infinite mystery become our story we begin to see from and empty into wholeness. Worldview evolves into wholeness as we let each other in.

13 On the surface of things three elements are strikingly and literally obvious: the stormy ocean, the listing ship, and the small Lifeboat with four people. What story do they tell? Note the relationship between the Ship the Lifeboat and the Ocean. do they all appear to be moving in the same line? Let us now wander into a more symbolic story depicted in the relationship between the three literal elements. Imagine the ship as an old story of meaning which is no longer "staying afloat"  in a world beset by sudden turmoil and chaos. Leaving that story behind, the four people in the Lifeboat have entered headlong into the turmoil of the ocean. Find the light in the painting. Where does it originate and where does it direct your eye. Most specifically notice the individual ("I") in the rowboat who appears to be specifically illuminated. We have literally defined two visual sightlines in the visual field of the painting. They correspond to two symbolic storylines. Let us consider the line between the ship through the wave into the rowboat (and into an unseen future) as directional movement in space and time. Let us consider the line from the light source in the sky from behind the ship through the wave and then to the Lifeboat as a more abstractly represented illumination of consciousness. Holding this image in mind let me now tell you a story, a current story of meaning for me, which too will someday be left behind as my own consciousness develops to include a greater awareness of the mysterious ocean of otherness in which we are immersed.

14 The Ship, the Lifeboat, and the Ocean A Story of Seeing
We have defined two plot lines: The line of external movement drawn through the ship ,the wave and the rowboat representing story told in the dimensions of space and time, and the line of internal illumination , from the sky through the wave and then to the Life boat, as a story of evolving consciousness. Let’s now add the essential element by considering two terms: Worldview and Cosmology.

15 WORLDVIEW How one looks at (Sees) the phenomenon of life
How human consciousness sees the world As a concept, Consciousness of Worldview is a recent realization

16 COSMOLOGY The word “cosmos” rose among the Greeks and referred to the “whole” or that which makes the world a “world” - the notion of a whole order of things Cosmology - a story of meaning which views the world as a whole. Cosmology reflects the projected worldview and changes with the evolution of human consciousness and worldview

17 Three Scales or Dimensions
Macrocosm The Vast Self The Community The World The Cosmos The Collective Unconscious Microcosm The Small Self The Individual Personal Worldview Cosmology The Personal Unconscious Three Scales or Dimensions The Personal The Communal The Universal Individual self Community Identity Vast Self

19 tps:// Please note the "Radial" orientation of this visualization as drawn on a two dimensional plane - the  axis of  time moves from a center of "Earth Birth" outward (X,Y, and Z axes) as a sphere  The top half of the Biosphere depicts the expanding "global surface" of a diversely pulsating and internally complexifying evolution in the direction of greater consciousness. (notice periods of extinction as well expansion).. The outermost ring, the circumference line of "Now" conveys an event horizon of evolving complexity. .

20 OUTWARD “RADIATION” OF THE BIOSPHERE

21 tps:// To follow the two lines delineated in  the shipwreck painting. Seeing Exercise   here is an example of how the visual metaphor is applied In this tree of life visualization, the first line is represented as the directional dimension of biological evolution in space and time. - the embodied movement of creation evolving into greater diversity and complexity from a common origin and source. This is my understanding of Teilhard's “tangential" energy, (the energetic complement of radial energy represented by the core of the sphere). This "means" that the innermost root conveys a common origin in an ancient event horizon expanding everywhere in the emergent “Now” .

22 tps:// In this tree of life visualization, the second line is hidden as the within dimension of biological evolution - the movement of spirit as embodied in creation evolving into consciousness. This is my understanding of Teilhard's "radial" energy, the energetic complement of tangential energy represented by the surface of the sphere. This "means" that the outermost surface, the circumference lines of "Now" convey an event horizon of evolving complexity that is everywhere connected to and embodying a common source and universal root at their center.

23 "Impelled by developments in many fields, this shift and intellectual Vision has encompassed a wide range of ideas and principles, among which can be identified a few common themes. Perhaps the most conspicuous and pervasive of these can be summed up as a deeper appreciation of both the multi-dimensional complexity of reality and the plurality of perspectives necessary to approach it.“ Cosmos and Psyche :Intimations of a new worldview. The cosmological situation today. P26.
