You should look over the comments made on the last DBQ essay and consider what things you needed to do to improve the essay.

2. Grading Scale – DBQ Essay
The Documents count for 25% of the grade and the essay counts for 75%.
So, the scale is the following for the essay:
5 = points
4 = points
3 = points
2 = points
1 = points

3. Biggest tips for this next DBQ
Answer the documents in complete sentences! It makes it a lot easier to grade AND gives you great sentences to include in your essay!
Get OUTSIDE INFORMATION (O.I.) in your essay! If you want a 4 or 5, this is a MUST!
Get MORE ANALYSIS in your essay! Many of you will see my comments that your essays are “too descriptive”, this means you need to “explain more” which leads to analysis!
Don’t just simply summarize the documents, EXPLAIN (provide REASONS, CAUSES, and RESULTS that may not necessarily be IN the documents!)
Be careful how you cite the documents – DON’T use “In Document 1…” instead “According to the historian, John Smith…”
Make an OUTLINE before you start writing!!! Find SIMILAR documents that WORK TOGETHER, and then write about them in the SAME PARAGRAPH! – SHOW CONNECTIONS!
Also, start each paragraph with a TOPIC SENTENCE to introduce what you’re going to be talking about!

4. How can we get MORE outside info into your essay?
Some of the documents include information about how the following dealt with the depression: Hoover, middle class Americans, military vets, farmers, FDR?
