3 What is Continual Professional Development (CPD)
Maintain, develop or increase the knowledge, skills and professional performance Educational Activities All registered allied health professionals are strongly encouraged to engage in CPD Maintain high standards of practice Participation in CPE* activities is currently voluntary Mandatory CPE* would be implemented in the future Mandatory requirement for future renewal of practicing certificate Educational activities that serve to maintain, develop or increase the knowledge, skills and professional performance of registered allied health professionals. All registered allied health professionals are strongly encouraged to engage in CPE to ensure that they maintain high standards of practice and to keep abreast of new developments in their respective professions. The provision of quality and up-to-date allied health services is of utmost importance to safeguard the public’s interest. Whilst participation in CPE activities is currently voluntary, mandatory CPE would be implemented in the future as part of the requirements for the renewal of an allied health professional’s practising certificate. 5 CPD and AHPC Registration
Registered Allied Health Professionals must participate in regular CPD CPD would be made MANDATORY in future for renewal of an allied health professional’s practising certificate SSR encourages all to engage in regular CPD Registered AHPC must obtain regular CPD to keep updated Main objective: safe practitioners Although participation in CPD activities is currently voluntary, the Ministry of Health Allied Health Professions Council has stated that “mandatory CPD would be implemented in the future as part of the requirements for the renewal of an allied health professional’s practising certificate” The society would like to encourage all our members to engage in CPD in order to ensure the provision of all radiological and therapeutic services are up-to-date. It is our professional responsibility to ensure patient’s safety.

6 CPD Credit System by Singapore Society of Radiographers (SSR)
SSR defines ONE CPD cycle as … 2 year-period. Begins 1st April that year and ends on 31st March of the second year. Members are encouraged to attain a minimum of 24 CPD credits over this 2-year CPD cycle - e.g. 24 CPD points 1st April 2018 to 31st March 2021 Members may undertake any of the seven categories of CPD activities listed by the society (see SSR approved CPD listing --  Any activity that does not fall into any of the seven categories will be reviewed by the society academic committee on a case by case basis. Clinical institutions are welcome to apply for validation of their in-house activities/programmes for the award of CPD credits. Please click on this link ( for more details.

7 CPD Credit System by Singapore Society of Radiographers (SSR)
SSR Members may undertake any of the seven categories of CPD activities listed by the society. Any activity that does not fall into any of the seven categories will be reviewed by the society academic committee on a case by case basis. Clinical institutions are welcome to apply for validation of their in- house activities/programmes to be validated by SSR for the awarding of CPD credits. 8 Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC)
A professional board under the Ministry of Health Governs and regulates the professional conduct and ethics of registered allied health professionals In accordance to the Allied Health Professions Act 2011.

9 Functions of the AHPC Approve or reject applications for registration under this Act and to approve any such applications subject to such conditions and restrictions as it may think fit; Accredit programmes for, and providers of, the training and assessment of persons seeking to become registered allied health professionals; Determine and regulate the standards of practice, competence, conduct and ethics of registered allied health professionals; Keep and maintain the registers; Coordinate and supervise the activities of the committees and professional boards appointed under section 12; and Generally to do all such acts, matters and things as are necessary or authorised to be carried out under or for the purposes of the Allied Health Professions Act 2011

12 SSR’s role in CPD The Singapore Society of Radiographers (SSR) is a professional body representing Radiographers, Radiation Therapists and Sonographers in a myriad of imaging and therapeutic modalities, ranging from (but not limited to) Radiography, Radiation Therapy, Nuclear Medicine, Computed Tomography, Angiography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Positron Emission Tomography to Ultrasonography. We aim to foster an environment of continual professional development; through facilitation of research and organization of academic events, in order to excel in our various practices for the maximum benefit of our patients. We hope to achieve this through: Organizing regular academic sessions and scientific conferences for our members Organizing professional courses and workshops Accrediting Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points to our members as a means of recognizing their efforts for professional advancement Publishing the societyís monthly newsletters and annual research journal Other aims: We strive to maintain affiliations with international and national professional bodies (ISRRT, AIR) We strive to maintain links with associated academic and professional organizations (Nanyang Polytechnic, Centre for Radiation Protection)

We encourage radiography community to take leadership and ownership of our own CPD SSR will be a key CPD provider in Singapore

Reflection journal writing is believed to enable learners to critically review processes of their own learning and behaviours, and to understand their ability to transform their own learning strategies (Gleaves et al. 2008). Learners develop better strategies in problem solving and develop personal conceptual definitions. Reflection journal writing was effective in promoting self-reflection and learning
