Describe how being citizens affects our identity Outline the role and duties of a citizen in the UK

Key words Bill – a law that has been passed Constitutional monarchy – a king or queen is the head of state and an elected body makes the laws. Emigrant -a person who leaves this country to move to another. Democracy – a system of government in which people rule through the power to vote for a representative.

What's the benefits of being a UK citizen?
A citizen is someone with the legal right to live in a particular country; to qualify as a citizen, people must meet conditions set by that country’s government. What's the benefits of being a UK citizen?

The European Union I’m a citizen of a European Union country, so I also have EU citizenship. This means I am allowed to live in any EU country. A few weeks ago we voted to leave the EU, how will this affect you – write down 3 ways.

Task 1 – 8 minutes A*/A List at least 5 British values such as tolerance and explain why they are important. B/C Create a spider diagram of things associated with being British for example queuing, fish and chips – explain when stereo types can be good and sometimes harmful.

Rights and Responsibilities
The United Nations set out a list of essential rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The UK made these part of UK law through the Human rights act in 1988. The rights and responsibilities we have fall into 3 categories: Political rights and responsibilities. Legal rights and responsibilities. Economic rights and responsibilities.

Extension activity B/C – If the queen had powers to make laws which laws do you think she would pass and why? A/A* The legal age to vote in the UK is 18, however there is talk of reducing it to 16. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this and form a conclusion
