Standard Septic System for Home in the Occoquan Watershed
Daily Usage (per person) Dishwasher: 1 gal Toilet: gal Faucet: gal Clothes Washer: gal Shower: gal Over 50 gallons per person per day Source: Standard two part septic field designed for 20 people (750 gals per day) This field is designed for a single family home with four people currently living in it. The Paradise Springs Winery system is smaller (680 gallons). The latter is supplying the needs of 1,000 people per day on the weekends and 250 people per day on weekdays. Assuming that one person is only at Paradise Springs for 20% of a day, daily consumption is 10 X 1,000= 10,000 gallons of effluent per day at Paradise Springs Winery for a 680 gallon per day septic system. Dishwashing will occur for plates and stemware used for tasting as well as events. Events and daily tasting make use of table cloths and napkins which require washing. Patrons will not be showering, but employees will be washing down equipment and interiors. Diverter valve. Every six months switch to other field to give half of field a rest. Two tanks in series…one is 1480 gallons the other 1125 gallons. The first tank captures most of the solids. The second tank is there primarily as a back up. From the second tank, the effluent flows to the diverter valve and thence into the selected field.
