(3.6) Science Concepts. The student knows that forces cause change.
The student is expected to: (A) measure and record changes in the position and direction of the motion of an object to which a force such as a push or pull has been applied.

What is a push and pull?? Push is a force that causes motion away from the source. "He pushed the table into a corner" A pull is an attractive force, which causes motion towards the source of the motion. “Pull your knees towards your chin."

A student hits a tennis ball with her racket during a tennis game. Using the picture above, which direction will the tennis ball most likely go? A. B. C. D.

The correct answer is…B!!!
B is the correct answer because the direction of the racket’s force is pushing the ball in an upward motion.

Incorrect Choices: A would be incorrect because the force of the racket is not pushing the tennis ball straight down. C and D would be incorrect because it would be impossible for the tennis ball to go the opposite direction of the force applied.

During recess, two teams are playing Tug-of-War. Each team is pulling with equal force. What will happen? The team on the right will win. The team on the left will win. The two teams will stay in the same place. The rope will become loose in the middle.

Since both teams are pulling with equal force, both teams will stay in the same place. There would be no distance moved on either side of the rope.
