1 Commutative, distributive, and associative
Properties of math Commutative, distributive, and associative

2 Monday Commutative Property

3 Commutative Property The property which states the order in which two numbers are multiplied does not change the product. Think fact families and arrays 6X4=24 4X6=24

4 Commutative property poem
I have a number sentence. I write two factors down. When they’re multiplied together, A product can be found! Now flip flow these factors, And what do you see’; The answer is still the same because I just did the commutative property!

5 Tasks Cut out foldable from Chapter 9 in text books stating on page 493 Complete arrays and fact families page, connecting it to the commutative property

6 Wednesday Distributive property

7 Distributive Property
The distributive propery allows you to decompose (break down) one factor. Then you can use the smaller known facts to find products. 8 3

8 Order of operations (pemdas)
Please- (Parentheses) Excuse- exponents My- Multiplication x Dear- Division ÷ Aunt – Addition + Sally –Subtraction -

9 S A P E M D Subtraction Addition Parenthesis Exponents Multiplication
Division S Subtraction A Addition

10 Try these problems (3x4)+(5x7) 3x4=12 5x7=35 12+35=47
What comes first?

11 Try these problems (4x6)+(2x3) 4x6=24 2x3=6 24+6=30 What comes first?

12 What is the same as: (5x2)+(5x4)
Because adding the 2 and 4 together, makes the factor 6 and five multiplied by 6=30

13 What is the same as: (4x5)+(4x2)
Because adding the 5 and 2 together, makes the factor 7 and 4 multiplied by 7=28

14 Task Complete pages in MyMath book

15 Associative property Friday

16 Associative property States that the grouping of factors does not change the product. Example: 3 x5 x4 is the same as 4 x 5 x 3

17 4 x 3 x 2 Break it down: 4X 3= 12 12 x 2 = 24

On vacation a family took 4 cars. In each car there were 2 girls and 5 boys. How many people went on the vacation? 4X (2+5) 2X(4+5) 5X (2+4)

19 Which one does not equal the same as 4X6?
(4x1) +(4X6) (4x2)+ (4x4) 4+ (6x1)
