These mountains are a natural barrier between India and the rest of Asia. They extend about fifteen hundred miles and are among the highest in the world. How could the Himalayas help civilization develop in this area?

The Indo-Gangetic Plain The world’s largest plain. The three main rivers are the Indus, the Brahmaputra, and the Ganges. The rivers enrich the land and bring water for irrigation. How could the rivers help civilization develop in this area?

The Deccan region is a rocky, uneven plateau. It is dry and depends on irrigation for successful farming. Why wouldn’t this area be beneficial for civilization to grow?

12 Indus River Valley Civilizations 2500 – 1500 BCE
A) Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro were “twin” cities in the Indus River Valley (in modern Pakistan) 2500 BCE. B) Both were planned cities; the buildings and streets were laid out on a grid, and even had a sewer system! C) Animistic (believed in spirits in nature). D) System of writing that is still undeciphered. E) By 1500 BCE Aryans (light skinned Indo-Europeans) conquered the Indus River Valley.
