Who DISCOVERED THE CELL?
Robert Hooke in 1665 BUT Anton van Leeuwenhoek was the first person to see a live cell under a microscope.

The cell The cell is the smallest unit of structure and function in all living things. All living things are composed of cells. Each cell has a specific function within an organism. Plant cells differ from animal cells.

What are some identifying functions of living things?
Grow and reproduce Adapt and respond Remove wastes Digest food Perform RESPIRATION These functions must also be done at the cellular level.

Tissues Tissues are made up of Cells.
They work together to perform a specialized function.

organs Organs are structures that contain at least 2 different types of tissue that function together for a common purpose. Examples: Heart, liver, kidneys, skin, pancreas, etc.

What is the largest external organ of the human body? SKIN What is the largest internal organ of the human body? LIVER

ORGAN SYSTEM A group of organs that work together to perform a certain function. How many systems are in the human body? 11

Organism An organism is made up of many different systems that work together to support life.
