Language requirements for matriculation: exemptions Irish Generally speaking, anybody applying to an NUI institution who was born and had all their education in the Republic of Ireland must present Irish (achieving at least Grade D at Ordinary Level) for Matriculation purposes. Students not born in the Republic of Ireland or educated for an extended period outside Ireland may apply to NUI for an exemption from the Irish language requirement. Students with specific learning difficulties affecting language acquisition (dyslexia) may also apply for exemption from Irish. To apply for an exemption, it is necessary to send in a completed Exemption Application Form and other relevant material. Third language Students with specific learning difficulties affecting language acquisition (dyslexia) may apply for exemption from the Third Language requirement. To apply for an exemption, it is necessary to send in a completed Exemption Application Form and other relevant material. Alert your counsellor if you think you are entitled to an exemption. Exemptions and Entrance Exams: Engineering Maths Exams Engineering Maths Qualifying Examination For Admission September 2017 Admission to the BE programmes in the College of Engineering and Informatics is confined to students who satisfy the general requirements for Matriculation in the College of Engineering and Informatics and who have reached at least Grade C in Higher Level papers in Mathematics at the Leaving Certificate Examination. Candidates who satisfy the general requirements for Matriculation in the College and who have NOT attained a minimum of Grade C in Higher Level papers in Mathematics may apply to take the Engineering Maths Qualifying Examination in Mathematics held by the University. Places available (which may vary in number year to year) will be allocated to those candidates who have achieved the points requirement for the programme that year, who satisfy the general requirements for Matriculation in the College of Engineering and Informatics and who attain a Pass in the Engineering Maths Qualifying Examination. The places available will be allocated in strict order of merit based on performance in the Engineering Maths Qualifying Examination. Due to capacity constraints, not all candidates who achieve a pass in the examination may receive an offer. Exemptions and Entrance Exams
