2. Progressive Movement
Some companies would join together to form trusts - groups who had the power to drive out the competition. These trusts could act like monopolies.
Progressives were reformers who wanted to end unfair business practices and improve the government.
One group of progressives were known as muckrakers because they were writers and worked to uncover the “muck” (dirt) of businesses.

4. Progressives: made changes to food and drug policies
worked to improve education, health and other social issues
passed building codes, mine inspections, children’s safety codes, etc.
passed Blue Laws: laws designed to solve some of the social issues of the time (no alcohol on Sundays)
passed income tax to help pay for reforms and other projects.

5. Conservation Efforts Progressives worked to conserve the environment.
Conserve or conservation means to protect something from being destroyed or used up.
Teddy Roosevelt worked hard to protect America’s natural beauty and helped protect our land by creating national parks.
