Definition: The elements of arts are the building blocks of art creation. They can be analyzed, organized, and manipulated by artists. They are the VISUAL LANGUAGE of art.

5. Contour line Contour Line Blind Contour Line
Means “outline” and presents exterior edges of objects. A plain contour has a clean, connected line, and emphasizes an open “shell” of a subject.

6. Implied Line Implied Line
A line that is visually suggested by the arrangement of forms, lights and darks, or other elements in a work of art.

7. What do these lines indicate in a work of art?
Horizontal Lines suggest a feeling of rest or repose because objects parallel to the earth are at rest.
Vertical Lines often communicate a sense of height because they are perpendicular to the earth, extending upwards toward the sky.
Diagonal Lines convey a feeling of movement. Objects in a diagonal position are unstable. Because they are neither vertical nor horizontal, they are wither bout to fall or are already in motion.
Curved & Zig-Zag Lines, smooth curved lines are calming. Sharply curved or twisted lines can convey turmoil, chaos, and even violence.

8. Analog Drawing
This is a symbolic drawing that represents or expresses a feeling like love, fear, etc.

10. Gesture Drawing
The act of making a sketch with relatively loose arm movements (gestures).

11. Still Life
The arrangement of diverse inanimate objects e.g. food, flowers, bowl, etc.

12. Thumbnail Sketch A small sketch used to explore multiple
ideas quickly.

13. Value
An element of art that describes the lightness or darkness of a color (hue).

14. Hatching
Creating tonal or shading effects with closely spaced parallel or diagonal lines.

15. Chiaroscuro
in art is "an Italian term which literally means 'light-dark'. In paintings the description refers to clear tonal contrasts which are often used to suggest the volume and modeling of the subjects depicted

16. Crosshatching
Two sets of matching lines at an angle to one another.

17. Stipple
Is a drawing method using dots rather than lines.

In 1941, he underwent surgery in which a colostomy was performed. Afterwards he started using a wheelchair, and until his death he was cared for by a Russian woman. With the aid of assistants he set about creating cut paper collages, often on a large scale, called découpés. His Blue Nudes series feature prime examples of this technique he called "painting with scissors"; they demonstrate the ability to bring his eye for color and geometry to a new medium of utter simplicity, but with playful and delightful power
