2010 51 workers/day are injured while lifting, pushing or pulling 43 workers/day receive bruises, fractures or concussions when struck by equipment 40 workers/day slipped, tripped or fell and received sprains, fractures or paralysis 12 workers/day were exposed to harmful substances causing skin diseases or respiratory illnesses 10 workers/day have had part or all of their body crushed by equipment On average, one worker in Ontario dies every day from a workplace injury or illness. 6 Workplace Standards: You Have the RIGHT:
You are limited to 8 hours of work/day or 48 hours/week You should have 11 consecutive hours off work each day You should have 24 hours off work each week or 48 consecutive hour off in a 2 week period You should be paid a minimum wage of $10.30/hour (student) $11/hour (adult). $9.55/hour (liquor servers) If you work more than 44 hours/week you should be paid overtime of at least 1.5x your hourly rate You should be paid regularly, with a statement To come home from work every day, safe and sound To know about workplace hazards and what to do about them To Participate in solving workplace health and safety problems To refuse work you believe to be unsafe To report health and safety problems without the threat of losing your job.

Make sure workers know about hazards and dangers by providing information, instruction and supervision on how to work safely. Make sure supervisors know what is required to protect workers’ health and safety on the job. Create workplace health and safety policies and procedures. Make sure everyone follows the law and the workplace health and safety policies and procedures. Make sure workers wear and use the right protective equipment. Do everything reasonable in the circumstances to protect workers from being hurt or getting a work-related illness. Work is a PARTNERSHIP Between Employers and Employees

Follow the law and workplace health and safety policies and procedures. Wear and use the protective equipment required by their employer. Work and act in a way that won’t hurt themselves or anyone else. Report any hazards or injuries to their supervisor. Tell workers about hazards and dangers, and respond to their concerns. SUPERVISORS: Show workers how to work safely, and make sure they follow the law and workplace health and safety policies and procedures. Make sure workers wear and use the right protective equipment.
