Go8 QVS Process 2018

2 What is Go8 QVS? Key features include:
A focus on assessment in a sample of final year subjects in undergraduate programs, 25 percent of final year assessment requirements. Benchmarking for comparing grades awarded in similar programs for Go8 universities. Understanding of academic standards in similar universities around the world. Flexibility to complement other quality assurance mechanisms within Go8 universities.

3 Disciplines QVS 2018 involves ten disciplines:
Aerospace Engineering and Technology Business and Management Economics and Econometrics Information Systems Language and Literature Philosophy and Religious Studies Physics and Astronomy Public Health Studies in Human Society Visual Arts and Crafts

4 Selection Ten disciplines are selected by Go8 & each institution selects two courses per discipline and considers: enrolment numbers courses with electronic submission core courses (not electives).

5 How do we do it? Part One: The process involves external review of two courses per Go8 selected discipline Assessment materials – a randomly selected and de-identified sample of 5% of students’ assessments at each of the following grade levels or equivalent (fail, pass, credit, distinction, high distinction). Course outlines / guide and learning outcomes. Information on how learning outcomes relate to degree level outcomes. Grading criteria for each assessment task. Grade nomenclature and categories (or grade policy).

6 How do we do it? Part Two: The process involves reviewing material for other Go8 Universities Senior Academics (Level C or D) with broad experience and knowledge in the subject area are asked to review material. Honorarium at $600 per day. 1-2 days is typical for the review of material. Two reviewers for each discipline.

Nominate reviewers at UofA (Level C or above). 2. Identify and collate documents and materials for each course being reviewed. 3. Upload de-identified assessment items* in preparation for external review. *process to be advised 4. Allocate reviewers from the Go8 list of approved QVS reviewers. 5. Receive material for review. Complete review of allocated material and submit Reviewer Evaluation Form. 6. Disseminate and discuss summary outcome reports. 7. Publish review recommendations and schedule of discipline reviews. 8. Complete evaluation of QVS process and seek feedback. 9. Report to Quality Enhancement Committee on QVS process, evaluation outcomes and feedback.

8 Summary of Assessment Two UofA courses are to be assessed per Go8 selected discipline.    The material that is required for each course includes: Assessment materials (5 percent at each grade level) Course outline/guide and learning outcomes Information on how learning outcomes relate to degree level outcomes Grading criteria for each assessment task Grade nomenclature and categories (or grade policy) Two UofA Reviewers are put forward per Go8 selected discipline.

9 Support Learning and Quality Support can support the Go8 QVS process by: Facilitating the identification and collation of material; Providing technical support for uploading/downloading material; Answering questions and queries; and Advising on the end-to-end process.
