1. Warm-Up … Welcome back!
Using sensory details to appeal to all five senses, describe your winter vacation.
For an extra challenge, do not ever say what you actually did over vacation. Make your reader guess by imagining the picture you paint!

2. My Winter Vacation
The sky was pale blue, crystal clear, with puffy white clouds floating around it. Green palms swayed in the wind on top of their thick brown trunks. The sunlight sparkled off the clear turquoise water. The ship was massive, unbelievably large, with thousands of small glass windows, dozens of rows of balconies, and a huge, bright blue and yellow mural of underwater animals. As we climbed higher and higher, I began to feel dizzy as I looked at the water miles below us. My head felt full and my stomach fluttered, and I stared straight ahead, refusing to turn my neck to the sides. I heard the excited cries of thousands of people around me, and I wondered how no one else seemed to feel the back and forth, swaying motion of the ship. That night, I lay in bed alone, with only the taste of dry, hard bread in my mouth. I tried to force the tears back in my eyes and the dizziness out of my head. For hours before that, every time I stood up, my knees buckled. When I tried to walk, my body moved the opposite direction from which I intended. My stomach rumbled and my brain felt mushy, so I finally gave up. Under the fluffy white covers, with a pillow over my eyes to block the light, I felt fine.

3. Unit 1 & 2 Vocab Review Work independently.

For each term, do a quick review by writing an example or drawing a picture.

4. Word Wall Work independently.
Choose 2 of the terms from Unit 1 and Unit 2.
Complete a Word Wall entry for each one using the handouts provided.
You MUST have a picture and the paragraph summary/explanation.
You should also use color and your work should be neat, in order to receive full credit.
You have 20 minutes! (10 for each word)

5. Unit 3 Preview Work with your group.
Define the vocabulary terms for Unit 3 by using your prior knowledge, your phone, or a dictionary.
Do NOT just copy an exact definition without understanding the meaning. Make sure you put it in words that you can understand.
You have 20 minutes.

6. Unit 3 Pre-Test Work with your group.
Take the 10-question pre-test on Unit 3.
Discuss the questions together and use process of elimination as you can.
You have 8 minutes.
