2 Spotlight Writing Focus on Narratives, Opinion, & Informative
-Citing evidence -Writing from non-fiction One essay per week -Overall writing grade Once a month your child = Spotlight Writer -Rubric score based on meeting writing standards Students need to use their blue writing packets to help them. Writing HW (if not done in class): Tuesday = Rough Draft Thursday = Final Draft

3 Reading Focus on comprehension and using evidence to support answers.

5 SCIENCE Students will rotate through all 4 teachers:
Life Science-Mohit Earth Science-Clavadetscher Electricity & Magnetism-O’Brien Health-Albiar STEM Unit-each teacher teaches their own class (End of year project) Focus on Potential & Kinetic Energy

6 Math Curriculum: Math In Focus
Focus on a complete understanding of numbers and mathematical skills Math In Focus=C-P-A (concrete-pictorial-abstract) teaching process -gradual release of students toward independent work No longer a page of homework a night - Reflex Math -IXL Unit Tests -Designed to measure student understanding at three levels: Basic, Application, and Novel

- no credit for: no name, late, incomplete or missing work - absent work CAN be completed for credit - attached tests below 80% to be signed - Please leave all papers attached - please look for these every week

*Spelling/Grammar= 2-3 times per week *Writing = Tues./Thurs. * Reading = Reading logs/Daily News *Math, Social Studies, and Science will be assigned intermittently during the week. Your child is responsible for: *putting their name on their work *turning assignments in on time *filling in their agenda books

11 TESTS *An outline/study guide will be sent home the week before a test
-Test notification for Chapter/Unit Tests: *An outline/study guide will be sent home the week before a test *Test dates and outlines will be posted on EdLio. *Agenda Book -Weekly tests: *Spelling tests, Math Quiz, & Reading Comprehension every Friday.

13 SPECIAL SCHEDULES * P.E.-Tues/Thurs
-Student needs to be dressed appropriately * Music-Wednesdays -9:40-10:30 -Please be sure your child brings their instrument each Wednesday. -Ensemble will meet Wed. before school in Stadium. (this is a voluntary, fee-based program)

- Nov. 14/15 & Nov. 15/16 - parent chaperone by lottery Mission -2nd Trimester - model done in class - report and model done as a creative, group collaboration. Archeological Dig-In the spring
