Quotation marks Lesson by: callie Lou and abi
2
Quotation Marks ~Titles of Short Works: These include articles, chapters of a book, short stories, essays, songs, and most poems. Examples: Tonight we will be reading Parker Turcios’ new article, “31 Ways to Improve Your Handwriting.”
3
Exceptions (no quotations!!!)
~with the major subdivisions of the Bible. ~with a title when it stands as the heading of the work itself. (Ex. do NOT use quotation marks with the title of a report you write for class.)
4
Single Quotation Marks
Single quotation marks should be used whenever needed within quotation marks. Examples: “I just heard Cora say, ‘It’s so fluffy, I’m gonna die!’ ” said Kara. Callie said, “I just heard Hunter ask, ‘Will you really be my date to the artist series?’ I promise. I’m not joking.”
5
Other punctuation ~Questions marks and exclamation marks go inside the quotation marks Examples: Lauren exclaimed, “I actually did my math homework last night!” Casey said, “Do you know all of Mrs. Richmond’s quadratic formula raps? I do!”
