In spring 2008, The Heart & Soul of Sussex County project engaged
Sussex County residents in a conversation that identified what we, as a community, value. What would we miss if it were taken from us? What places do we most treasure? What items, if lost, would diminish our quality of life in Sussex County? Residents were asked to complete one simple statement…To me, Sussex County is... ? In Summer 2018, the SCTTC Planning team sent a survey to all past SCTTC attendees and asked them 3 simple questions… What do you like most about Sussex County What is your most pressing concern re: Sussex County and If you could see one major change to the County over the next 25 years, what would it be… Heart and Soul Project and Survey in Summer 2018……10 years time passed, a lot has changed in our community, yet the feedback received hadn’t really changed at all… Common responses re: assets

Our Goals & Ambitions Remain the Same!
Development – Balance East/West Growth, Ecological Impacts, Affordable Housing Education/Jobs – Good Educational Foundation for Young People, Attractive Career Opportunities Culture/Media – Activities/Events, Broadband Internet, Support for Arts and Sciences The challenge…Finding a happy medium between what Sussex County has been and what it can be…shaping a future while staying true to the essence of the small community feel… So, remember the 4 goals of the County Conference? They are all important, but I would argue that one is most critical -now in our 25th year of this community conversation…Take Action…so Let’s talk about What if’s…

This breakout session was inspired by the Museum of the City of New York’s Future City Lab, in which visitors are introduced to the challenges facing New York City and strategies that can be used to solve them. The “What If?” table at the entrance of the gallery, encourages visitors to pose questions to the Museum and each other, signals the interactive nature of the Future City Lab and encourages visitors to think of themselves as participants in future problem-solving. What if… These two small words open up a world of future possibilities unconstrained by today’s realities. They don’t just pose a question; they propose an idea about how things could be in the future.

So let’s get this conversation going…
