1 Charging Objects by Contact and Induction
Section 11.2 & 11.6

2 Charging Objects by Friction
Occurs when two different neutral materials are rubbed together or come in contact and electric charges transfer from one object to another.

3 The Electrostatic series aka Triboelectric Series
Used to help us figure out the charge an object will have. Found on Page 473 If we rub acetate with wool what charge will each have? Acetate +, wool – If we rub a rubber balloon with fur? Balloon -, fur +

4 Conductor or Insulator?
Conductor – a substance that allows electrons to flow through it i.e. metals Insulator – a substance that does not allow electrons to flow through it i.e. plastic Grounding – connecting an object to a large body (like Earth) – it removes the electric charges.

5 Charging by Conduction
Charging an object by contact with a charged object.

6 Charging by Induction Charging a neutral object by bringing a charged object close to, but not touching, the neutral object.
