1 Rugby

2 History of Rugby Field games resembling rugby can be traced back to ancient Greece; however, William Webb Ellis is credited with inventing the game of Rugby. In 1823, he broke the rules of English football by picking up the ball and running with it during a football game at Rugby School. By 1870, the boys from Rugby School produced the first written rules for the game of Rugby and soon the idea of “running with the ball” caught on.
