Grade 7 Healthy Living Outcomes related to Mental Health
7.10 differentiate between the warning of signs of major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, attention deficit disorder, recognizing gender differences and the impact of delayed treatment (I can provide some information about each of the mental health issues mentioned, pay attention to gender differences, and the risks of not seeking treatment/help.) 7.11 demonstrate an understanding that mental health is an integral component of health, that there is no shame in expressing a need for mental health support, and to recognize safe people in their lives whom they can trust to help them (I can provide some information that shows how important mental health is to our overall well-being, explain what stigma is and why it needs to be eliminated, and share sources for individuals to seek support.) 7.18 demonstrate an understanding that communities have resources that youth can access for help for a variety of health issues (I can provide information on community resources available to support youth in need.)

Stress - Pre-Test True or false?? All stress is bad for you and should be avoided. Boredom causes stress. Constant change helps to relieve stress.

Special machines which measure bodily responses can determine whether a person is under stress.
People with certain personality traits are more likely to get stress-related diseases. A boss is more likely to suffer from stress than someone working for him. People’s physical responses to stressful situations vary greatly.

There is a link between distress and such diseases as ulcer, mental illness, and heart disease.
A person can learn to manage stress. Pleasant and stimulating situations can be stressful.

Defining Stress: An emotional and physical response to threats from the outside world. A response by the body to a demand put upon it. Stress comes from both good and bad things that happen to us. If we don’t experience stress it means we are DEAD.

People should work out their own mental health problems. Once you have a mental illness, you have it for life. Females are more likely to have a mental illness than males. Medication is the best treatment for mental illness. People with a mental illness are generally violent and dangerous. Adults are more likely than teenagers to have a mental illness. You can tell by looking at someone whether they have a mental illness People with a metal illness are generally shy and quiet. Mental illness can happen to anyone. You would be willing to have a person with a mental illness at your school or your work. You would be happy o have a person with a mental illness become a close friend.
