3 THE JFS DIFFERENCE In short, JFS fills a crucial gap.
JFS has historic success providing critical, high quality services: International Services (Refugee Resettlement, English as a Second Language Program, Citizenship, Immigration Services, Preferred Communities, Individual Development Accounts, Microenterprise Development) Older Adult Services (Partners In Care Concierge Program, Transportation Services, Case Management, GenChat, Elderlink, etc.) Clinical and Community Services (Counseling, Caregiver Consulting and Support, Crisis Management Services, Eviction Prevention, Community Food Pantry Program) Employment and Career Services Volunteer Services The Herb Amster Center (social enterprise) [read slide] Lives Transformed. 5 INTEGRATION SERVICES JFS offers a wide range of resettlement and post-resettlement services, including: Reception and Placement (R&P)- provides assistance for refugees to settle in the United States. Preferred Communities- assists refugees who have physical and mental health issues along with single parents with intensive case management for up to 12 months beyond the R&P period. Individual Development Account (IDA)- assists eligible population with matched savings accounts designed to help refugees save for a specific purchase. Under the IDA program, the matching funds, together with the refugee's own savings from their employment, are available for purchasing one (or more) of four savings goals: Home purchase Small business development Post secondary education or training Automobile (for employment purposes) Micro Enterprise Development (MED)- helps refugee women develop, expand or maintain their own businesses and become financially independent. Post-Resettlement Services- to assist refugees with integration into life in Michigan. Services include case management, education, and support services; all geared toward achieving social adjustment and integration for refugees. Lives Transformed. Hope Realized.

6 EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS Matching Grant
Includes 4-6 months of core maintenance assistance, employment services, and case management assistance for Refugees, Asylees, SIVs, victims of human trafficking, and Cuban/Haitian entrants seeking employment who arrived in US within last 5 years. Refugee Employment & Recertification Program Refugees, Asylees, SIVs, victims of human trafficking, and Cuban/Haitian entrants seeking employment who arrived in US within last 5 years. PATH Recipients of cash assistance in Washtenaw County referred to PATH & for whom English is a barrier to employment Career Services Job preparedness and placement for unemployed Washtenaw county residents Lives Transformed. Hopes Realized.

7 What happens next? Refugees are eligible to stay in the United States permanently and apply for citizenship after five years of residency. They are authorized to work from the day of arrival. Through the support of our agency and the local community, refugees learn English, job search skills, and get oriented to American culture. Refugees make important economic and cultural contributions to their new communities.
