1 Arts Challenge 5 – Let’s Dance
Dance Folio and Choreography

2 Inspiration / Stimulus
The inspiration for this dance routine was nature and the journey that leaves take when they get caught in the wind. View the following video which has been inspired by the wind

3 Inspiration / Stimulus
And a different interpretation of the wind by the Bangarra Dance Company Inspiration was also taken from the following dance routine

4 Moving Words Twirling Skipping Twisting Floating Flipping Waving
Swaying

5 Body Parts That Can Move
Arms Legs Fingers Heads Torso

6 Two Movements to Explore
A leaf twirling in the wind A leaf floating to the ground

7 Different Ways to Explore Movement
Twirling could be explored through standing on the spot and twirling the whole body in circles. It could also be explored by following a circular path Floating to the ground could be explored by standing with hands in the air and slowly lowering the body to the ground in a swaying motion It could also be shown through floating hand / arm movements.

8 Music – Option One Leaves in the Wind – Issac Shepherd
This song has a gradual build up at the beginning which could be used for movements that show the leaf either growing on the tree or being lifted up by the wind. It then picks up tempo which could be used to demonstrate the leaves journey. As the music is quite fast in places it may be too challenging for some students. The routine begins after a count of four.

9 Music – Option Two A Leaf in the Wind – Coldnoise
This song has a slower tempo therefore may be more suitable for students. Again it has a slow introduction that builds so the movements described for the first song would also be suitable for this piece of music. This song does have a melancholic sound compared to the first song. The routine would begin after two counts of 8.

10 Choreography 1. Students begin in a circle crouching down (introduction 4 or 8 count depending on music). 2. They stand on the spot and slowly rise, swaying as if they were a tree growing (4/8 count). 3. They then stand tall with their hands and arms swaying as if they were swaying in the breeze (4/8 count).

11 Choreography 4. They then push their hands to the right hand side and spin around in a complete circle on the spot (as if a leave being blown from a tree) (4/8 count). 5. Students then skip around in the circle, swinging their arms from side to side until the return to the same position (8/16 count). 6. Once they return to their spot they run forward, raising their hands until they are pointing upwards and then reverse the motion going backwards(the leaf lifting up and then falling back down) (8/16 count)

12 Choreography 7. Students repeat 4, 5 and 6 but move to the left hand side. 8. Once they have returned to their position they slowly bring their arms down in a floating motion and sink to the floor in a crouched position with their head on the ground (like child’s pose in yoga). This is the leaf settling to the ground. (8/16 count).
