1 “Congressional negotiators reach a deal”

2 Bipartisan congressional negotiators reached a critical agreement late Sunday on a massive spending bill that if approved by the House and Senate would fund the government through the end of September. The plan would add billions for the Pentagon and border security but would not provide any money for President Donald Trump's promised border wall with Mexico. There is no money provided for a deportation force and there are no cuts of federal monies to so-called sanctuary cities. Votes in both chambers are expected by the end of the week. The deal was reached after weeks of tense but steady negotiations between Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill and the White House, who battled over spending priorities but who were equally determined to avoid a politically fraught government shutdown. The deal means a government shutdown next Friday, when agencies are set to run out of money, is unlikely. Last Friday, Congress passed a one-week stopgap spending bill when it became clear negotiators needed a bit more time to finalize an agreement.

3 In Other News Philadelphia teachers are planning a "Day of Action" Monday over their lack of a pay raise. The protest is set to begin at 7:30 a.m., and to many it comes as no surprise. It's no secret Philadelphia teachers have been working without a contract and pay raise for years. "You can't plan your life if you don't know what your income is going to be. You can't plan in your classroom if you don't know who is going to be there next year and what kind of funding you're going to have," she added. And because of that, teachers argue, the district can't keep talent from leaving. On Monday, an estimated 200 teachers will be flexing their political muscle, protesting outside their schools and rallying at the SRC. Last week, a banner was flown over the NFL draft shaming the superintendent, SRC and mayor for supporting sports, over teachers. For Live with Kelly's millions of viewers who have made the show number one daytime entertainment talk show in America, the wait will soon be over to see who will earn the right to co-host next to Kelly Ripa. On Sunday, Ripa sent out a message via her social media accounts, as well as the "Live with Kelly" social platforms, that on Monday morning's show she will make the big announcement. Will that new co-host come from the ranks of those who have sat next to Kelly Ripa? Maybe, or maybe not.
