Spondees Word with two syllables pronounced with equal stress.
Example: Baseball, blackboard, hotdog. Used because they are easy to guess and the percent correct grows with intensity very rapidly.

Testing procedure for SRT
Make sure both syllables peak at 0 on the VU meter. If prerecorded speech, adjust gain control for the VU meter so that it reads 0 using calibration signal. Make sure spondees are familiar and that the patient’s responses can be understood by the tester. Various methods used Goal: To measure lowest hearing level at which 50% of the spondees can be correctly identified. Minimum of three correct responses at that intensity.

Results SRT can be used to cross-check PTA results.
SRT should be within 6-12 dB of the two-/three-frequency PTA. Exception: Steep high frequency hearing loss, pseudohypacusis
