1 Designing Solutions Periodic Review: Lessons 1-4
Year 5 Art, materials and Technology

2 Periodic Review In Lesson 1 we identified five steps used to design a product. Write the five steps of the design process in the correct order. 5. Share the results 3. Make and test the best idea 4. Reflect and evaluate 2. Brainstorm ideas 1. Identify and investigate the problem 1. Identify and investigate the problem 5. Share the results 2. Brainstorm ideas Teacher to differentiate by releasing students who are ready and teaching to the middle and lower students. Look at examples from LRS resources for question style. Include extended thinking down the bottom of the slide. 4. Reflect and evaluate 3. Make and test the idea

3 Periodic Review In Lesson 2 we learnt how to evaluate product design using a design brief. Use this design brief to evaluate how a stone axe will solve a problem. Design Brief – tools For cutting wood, meat and plants Able to be carried easily Very strong and reliable Made from local natural materials a a a Teacher to differentiate by releasing students who are ready and teaching to the middle and lower students. Look at examples from LRS resources for question style. Include extended thinking down the bottom of the slide. a Stone axe made from stone attached to a wooden handle with vine and fixed with resin.

4 Periodic Review In Lesson 3 we learnt how some indigenous designs have changed over time. In your workbook, add the numbers 1, 2, and 3 in the correct order beside the steps. To explain how indigenous products have been modified we will: ___ Find how it has changed ___ Look at the product ___ Explain why it has changed. 2 1 Teacher to differentiate by releasing students who are ready and teaching to the middle and lower students. Look at examples from LRS resources for question style. Include extended thinking down the bottom of the slide. 3

5 Periodic Review In Lesson 4 we learnt that design can involve modifying a product or creating a new design. In your workbook, use the three steps to fill in the table about the changes in televisions since 1950. To explain how products have been modified we will: 1. Look at the product 2. Notice how it has changed over time 3. Decide whether it is a modified product or a new design. 1. The product Television 1950s today 2. How has it changed? 3. Has it been modified or re-designed

6 Periodic Review In Lesson 4 we learnt that design can involve modifying a product or creating a new design.

7 Periodic Review To explain how products have been modified we will:
1. Look at the product 2. Notice how it has changed over time 3. Decide whether it is a modified product or a new design. 1. The product Television 1950s Television today 2. How has it changed? 3. Has it been modified or re-designed New way of communicating Larger screen Thinner No need for a box around it Better pictures and sound Re-designed Re-designed
