Adolescent or adult, all come into the family of God as newborn babes.
13
Ephesians 2: 1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
14
Before Christ we were all enemies of God.
Philippians 3: 18 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. Compare … Romans 5: 9-10
15
II Peter 1: 6a – and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness. I Corinthians 9: 24 – Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
16
There are many areas in which we need self-control :
1. Eating Spending 2. Tongue Alcohol 3. Anger Time

Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit
so it must be a goal for each of us. Galatians 5: 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. What does this means to us ? If the Spirit of God has sway in our life, He should be producing self-control within us.
