1 Welcome to iManager Name: Kim Monti Project Title: iManager Format: Native App synchs with a web application Platform: iPhone. Future iterations will accommodate Blackberry & Android

2 Project Description The iManager iPhone application was created to allow students in one of NOVA’s online Business Management classes to review and respond to established case studies that demonstrate business management theory in practice. In their course, students will then be instructed to use the iManager application to build their own case studies using their mobile devices to generate character narratives and questions for their classmates. The student generated case studies will be available for review and response in a case study repository. The iManager application will synchronize student responses and student generated content to the web-hosted iManager repository.

3 Benefits of iManager Included to augment current course
Allows asynchronous communication, collaboration Persistent by hosting repository of cases on the web for later reference/use Deeper learning – provides scaffolding and requires learners to fully immerse themselves in content by presenting their own case narratives.

4 Screen Title: iManager
Interaction Description: This screen introduces the application to the user and gives the user the option to: - View established case studies, which provides scaffolding for students about how they can build their own case studies, - Build their own case study, based on predetermined topic areas covered in the Business Management course, or - Access the web-hosted repository of student generated cases, where students can view classmates cases, and respond to the case-related questions. Navigation: Students will tap on the menu items to access the various areas available in iManager.

5 Screen Title: About iManager
Interaction Description: The information button provides introductory information to the user on the functionality of each component of the application – Case Studies, Build a Case & Repository. iManager case studies are available to help you understand how business management theory applies to realistic scenarios. You can either review an existing case study, build your own case study, or view and respond to student generated case studies found in the case study repository. Navigation: Continued from Home screen.

6 Screen Title: Case Studies
Interaction Description: This screen provides some established cases for student exploration and response. The student can review two different cases. The construction of these cases will help students conceptualize how they can build their own cases for a future iManager assignment. Review these case studies to familiarize yourself with iManager. For each topic, select a case study, review the scenario with the chosen characters, then answer questions from the manager's perspective. Navigation: Continued from Home screen.

7 Screen Title: Sample Case Study
Interaction Description: This screen uses a video to provide a profile about the company used in this case study. Students can view additional information about each character involved in this case study by tapping their names. For this case, the background video provides the following information: The ACME company is a government contractor. They have multiple multi-million dollar contracts with DOE, with the largest contract coming to a close very soon. ACME is awaiting to hear if they have been awarded more lucrative contracts with DOE that will allow them to continue work on a major multi-year project. This project currently carries the salary for 12 staff at ACME. View the video for information about the ACME company. Tap the name below for information about each character’s role in this case. Navigation: Continued from Case Studies Screen.

8 Screen Title: Character Info, CEO
Interaction Description: This screen provides more information about the CEO character in this case. It introduces new media (audio clip) to provide the narrative for the character, which students can also use in their case studies. For this character, the audio clip provides the following information: Alice is very concerned that billing on the current DOE contract has been light over the last several months. She is afraid that this will be taken into consideration as DOE awards new multi-year contracts, which may mean that ACME's award will be far less than anticipated. In several recent project management meetings, she has made comments that if billing does not increase over the last few months of the contract, current PM positions will be in jeopardy. Listen to the audio clip about ACME’s CEO Alice. Navigation: Continued from Sample Case Study screen.

9 Screen Title: Character Info, Employee
Interaction Description: This screen provides more information about the Employee character. For this character, the slide show and audio clip provides the following information: Rose is a Team Lead on the main DOE contract. She is aware of the issues related to billing for the current DOE contract and how it may effect future DOE awards. Rose advises the Project Management team to ensure that they allocate time to the DOE project on their time sheets, even if they have not done any work on the project in the past month. Watch the slide show and listen to the audio clip about ACME’s Project Manager, Rose. Navigation: Continued from Sample Case Study screen.

10 Screen Title: Character Info, Manager
Interaction Description: This screen provides more information about the Manager character and includes a question that requires a response from the student. Students are given the option to respond by entering text, or by using other media, such as an audio or video clip. This will give them practice using additional media as a way to communicate using the iManager application. Steven just received the timesheets from the Project Management team on the DOE project. He is surprised to find a significant difference in time allocated to the DOE project since the last month. If you were Steven, how would you handle this situation? Navigation: Continued from Sample Case Study screen. Additional Details: If students select Text Message, a text box will be provided for students to use. If students select upload audio or video, they will be given the opportunity to browse and select their audio and video files.

11 Screen Title: Upload audio/video response
Interaction Description: Here, students can select and attach audio and video files if they so choose. then submit their responses. Once they select Submit, their responses will be synched to the web-hosted iManager application. Navigation: Continued from Character info screen.

12 Screen Title: Upload audio/video response
Interaction Description: Students can choose to submit their response or include additional attachments to their response. Once they select Submit, their responses will be synched to the web-hosted iManager application. Navigation: Continued from Upload audio/video response screen.

13 Screen Title: Build a Case
Interaction Description: The learner is given the option to create their own case study based on specified topics. If the learner has already started to build a case and needs to include additional information, learners can select My Cases to go to their cases already in progress. Now it is your turn to build a case study. Select Topic to view the different topics or Select My Cases to continue building your case. Navigation: Continued from Home screen.

14 Screen Title: Build a Case

The video in this example includes the following information: The Westmaco company specializes in packaging. A U.S. based company, they have plants throughout the world. Productivity at some plants that focus on specialty items has dipped in the last few years & the Board of Directors is considering closing some plants. Using the tools available to you through your mobile device, build a case that describes three different characters at Westmaco (CEO, Middle Manager, Employee) are impacted by the decision making process. Think about the influence of managerial style and decision making techniques as you create your case. Create 2-3 questions that require a response from your classmates. To begin, select Build a Character below. View the video for information about the Westmaco company. To begin, select Build a Character below. Navigation: Continued from Case Topics screen.

Once they select Submit, their responses will be synched to the web-hosted iManager application. Once they select Submit, students will be prompted to submit information on another character, or return to the main menu.

17 Screen Title: iManager Repository
Interaction Description: This screen provides students with access to learner generated case studies by topic or view their own case studies. Student can then review and respond to questions based on selected case studies created by their classmates, or respond to feedback from classmates related to their own case studies. Navigation: Continued from Home screen. Tap to select a topic, or view your uploaded cases. Additional Details: Learner generated case studies are uploaded from the iManager iPhone application to a web-hosted version of iManager. The web-based version will house case study content and allow those without mobile devices to also participate in iManager learning activities.
