Identity of The Dragon We are told “Who deceives the whole world”
The Serpent of old, The Devil and Satan – verse 9 The serpent of old – garden of Eden The Devil – Diabolos – Slanderer and/or false accuser Satan – the accuser Genesis 3 v 1 – 6 he slanders God to man Job 1 v 6 – 12 he slanders man to God Matthew 4 v 1 – 11 Satan meets the God-Man and tries to apply deceit. Note Jesus’ defence was The Word in every instance “Who deceives the whole world” Just as he tried with Jesus The slanderer slanders God
3
Identity of The Dragon The seven heads and ten horns
Reminder – many view the seven headed, ten horned beast as synonymous with the beasts of Daniel 2 and 7 I believe these relate only to the beast in Daniel 7 and believe these diadem crowns are contemporary kings. The tail sweeps a third of the stars of heaven to earth Angels referred to as stars in Job 38 v 7 Revelation 1 v 20 Stars are angels of the 7 churches Revelation 6 v 13 – literal stars or angels? Judges 5 v 20 – must be angels not literal stars Psalm 8 – merely stars does not seem to satisfy I’m glad fallen angels are outnumbered 2 to 1
4
The Heavenly war Michael and his angels Made war with
Daniel 10 v 13 – 21 – THE Archangel with great authority and seniority Daniel 12 v 1 Speaks of the role of Michael in the end-times and fits perfectly with what we read in Revelation Jude 9 – ‘The Archangel’ Made war with Made an assault on or made war Satan and his angels fought also, but did not prevail Isaiah 14 v 12 and following – Satan’s defeat prophesied. Cast out of heaven to earth No contest really V 10 – the loud voice says it all
5
The earthly effect Woe to the earth for he was cast down and is full of wrath Rev 12 v 12 Not sure when – still had access in Job’s day, claimed to own it all at the temptation. However when God’s people are persecuted, they overcome him Blood of the lamb and the power of their testimony Blood of the lamb – all sin paid for so all Satan’s foothold lost The power of their testimony – what does this mean? Testimony of changed lives Indescribable courage The greater the persecution the greater the swelling of the numbers of the saved. The remnant protected Many think Petra – probably correct, but could be any place of God’s choosing From the face of the serpent (Satan) – Satan can only know what God wants him to know
6
The earthly effect Carried into the wilderness
Wings of eagles Exodus 19 v 4 Isaiah 40 v 31 Deuteronomy 32 v 11 and following – God has done this before for Israel For three and a half years Time, times and a half a time Daniel 7 v 25 time, times and the dividing of times Daniel 12 v 7 Time, times and a half
7
The earthly effect Satan tried a flood
Typical that he would try something that God promised would never be used in judgement again God opens up the earth to swallow the flood More evidence of the futility of Satan’s power against God’s Pharaoh's army destroyed by a flood, Gods army saved from one War was made with the remnant of the woman’s seed Salvation is from the Jews War with the seed of the woman’s (Jews’) seed Insanity is repeating the same process and expecting a different outcome
