2 1. Gregor Mendel – used peas to study how organisms inherit traits.
2. Mendel’s work was ignored for over 50 years. 3. Purebred – factors for a particular trait are the same, ex: both green peas 4. Hybrid – factors for a particular trait are different, ex: green peas and yellow peas.

3 5. Cross – mating of individuals to see how traits are inherited.
6. Dominant – the boss, factor that has the most influence on a trait (ex: hair color) 7. Recessive – the yes man, is submissive to the dominant trait.

4 8. Capital letter represents a dominant trait. Example: T.
9. Lower case letter represents a recessive trait. Example: t.

5 10. Each organism has two factors for every trait.
Height: T=tall, t=short. TT = purebred tall Tt = hybrid tall tT = hybrid tall tt = purebred short
