2. Behavior Toward Older & Younger Members (5:1-2)
“Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity.”

3. Behavior Toward Older Members (5:1-2)
“Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father 2 older women as mothers”
Eph 6:2-3 – “Honor” [prize, fix a valuation upon, revere]
Deut 27:16 – “Cursed is the one who treats his father or mother with contempt” [despise, dishonor, make light]
Prov 20:20 – “Whoever curses [to be trifling, light. YLT: “Vilifying”, spread negative information] his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in deep darkness.”

Prov 16:31 – “The silver-haired head is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness.”

Spiritual brothers are NOT rivals
Sisters in Christ are NOT objects of illicit affection

6. Behavior Toward Widows Indeed (5:3-10)
3 “Honor widows who are really widows.
Church’s Duty: verses 3, 5, 9, 10
Family’s Duty: verses 4, 7, 8, 16
Widow’s Duty: verses 5, 9

7. Behavior Toward Younger Widows (5:11-15)
11 “Refuse the younger widows.
The Reason: verses 11, 12, 13, 15
Grow wanton [lewd, careless, wasteful] against Christ
Desire to marry
Become idle gossips & busybodies
Turn aside after Satan
Younger Widow’s Duty: verse 14 (1 Tim 2:15)
“Therefore I desire that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage the house, give no opportunity to the adversary to speak reproachfully.”
