Aliens/Exiles “parepidemois”: a foreigner who has settled down; to reside as a stranger living in another country, one of a different race I Pet. 1 Believers, chosen, born again, beloved I Pet. 1:17-19 “paroikias”: residence in a foreign land without the right of a citizenship These verses tell us HOW to live during our stay/exile I Pet. 2:10-12 Abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against your souls John 7:35 Specifically to Jews of the Dispersion dwelling among the Gentiles or among nations that used the Greek language Zod.

Aliens/Exiles James 1:1 Twelve tribes in the Dispersion/believers
Acts 8:1,4; 11:19 Church in Jerusalem, dispersed, but also the dispersion of Jews before the church began (Diaspora) Eph. 2:11-13 Believers are all together in one body because Jesus’ blood brought us near Phil. 3:20 Our citizenship is in heaven Heb. 11:9-16 …they desire a better country, a heavenly one, not desiring to return to the country they went out from

Sanctifying Work of the Spirit
“hagiasmos”: process of making or becoming holy/set apart. The believer being progressively transformed by the Lord into His likeness (similarity of nature) Zod. I Pet. 1:2 The Spirit does the sanctifying work 2 Thess. 2:13 God chose us for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit, who sets us apart Heb. 10:9-18 and I Cor. 1:30 Believers are sanctified by Jesus’ sacrifice but are continuing to be sanctified by the Holy Spirit within

Obey Jesus Christ I Pet. 1:1-2 Trinity/Godhead
God chose Spirit sanctifies Jesus’ blood pays/shed I Pet. 1:1-2, 14, 22 Chosen to obey Jesus Christ I Pet. 2:7-8 Unbelievers are disobedient to the Word I Pet. 3:1,6,18-20 Obeying is connected with doing what is right/good. Obey Jesus Christ Rom 2:6-8; 6: People will be judged according to their deeds People are slaves of what they obey: sin or righteousness 2 Thess. 1:8 Don’t obey the gospel: God’s vengeance Matt. 7: Those who claim His name, but don’t obey Him are not really saved Acts 5:28-32 Holy Spirit is given to those who obey God: obedience is responding to the gospel Heb. 5:9 Jesus is the source of eternal salvation to those who obey Him

Be sprinkled with His blood
Ex. 24:3-8 Moses took the blood, read the covenant, people agreed to obey ALL the Law/Covenant ½ of the blood sprinkled on the people ½ the blood sprinkled on the altar Blood of the Covenant Is. 52:13-15 Prophecy about Jesus’ blood sprinkled on the nations Matt. 26:26-28 Blood of the New Covenant Heb. 9:13-14, Jesus’ blood is better, it cleanses the conscience, not just the flesh, to serve the Living God: ALL things are cleansed with blood; without it there is no forgiveness

Application So, CAN you or anyone be saved if you are not willing to obey Jesus Christ? I Pet. 2: Why would there be a war against your souls if you don’t need to obey Jesus Christ in order to be saved? Can the Holy Spirit do a sanctifying work within you, if you are not willing to obey Jesus Christ?
