1 Chapter 3-1 Notes: The Electromagnetic Spectrum
Electromagnetic Wave: a wave that consists of changing electric and magnetic fields that vibrate at right angles to each other. Ex) Light

2 Electromagnetic Spectrum: all of the frequencies or wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation. - Entire range of electromagnetic waves.

3 Visible Spectrum: range of colors of light
Visible Spectrum: range of colors of light. Infrared Wave: EM wave from the sun that warms Earth and keeps temperatures suitable for life.

4 Wavelength: distance from any point on a wave to an identical point on the next wave. Ultraviolet Light: EM wave that has good and bad effects; causes sunburn and kills bacteria.

5 Visible Light: narrow range of wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum that humans can see. White Light: visible light of all wavelengths combined.

6 Ultraviolet light waves DIFFERS Visible light waves: Ultraviolet light waves have shorter wavelengths than visible light waves do.
