2. Objectives Of the FBISD Science Fair
Stimulate student interest in the field of science.
Develop the skills necessary to accurately employ the scientific method, scientific concepts learned in class.
Provides a platform to share their project results with others.

3. Criteria for Science Investigation Projects
Identify a problem for investigation
Read, research, and provide a journal of information gathered.
State a hypothesis related to the problem
Prepare a list of materials needed and procedures to follow for an investigation.
Conduct the investigation.
Collect, organize, and sequence data.
Determine results and state the conclusion.
Prepare a written report reflecting research and the process of investigation.
Design and construct a display.

4. Prepare Your Display Board
The Tri-fold display board exhibits the highlights of the Science Project.
Having a neat and organized project display board will make it easy for judges to find the needed information.
Check Office Depot, Staples, OfficeMax and Wal-Mart for project display boards

5. Student Guidelines for Project Displays
Project displays should be neat, well organized, and self-explanatory.
Permitted materials include: hardboard, cardboard, plywood, cork board, or a commercial display board.
Maximum size requirements must be followed.
Front to Back – 30 Inches
Side to side – 48 Inches
Top to Bottom – 36 Inches
Boards should not have added topper.

6. Entries must illustrate clearly the steps of the scientific inquiry methods
Identify a problem for investigation (written as a question);
Read, research and provide a journal of information gathered;
State a hypothesis related to the problem;
Prepare a list of materials needed and procedures to follow for an investigation;
Conduct the investigation;
Collect, organize, and sequence data;
Determine results and state the conclusion;
Prepare a written report reflecting research and the process of investigation; and
Design and construct a display.

7. Project Display Restrictions
Liquids, foods, accessible chemicals, gases, or open flames may not be displayed. Wrappers may be used on displays instead.
Controlled or illegal substances may not be displayed.
Animals and animal parts may not be displayed.
Microorganisms, mold, or fungi cultures may not be displayed.
Knives or sharp objects should not be displayed.
Use plastic items instead of glass ones when possible.
Liquids may not be part of a display. They may be simulated using unflavored gelatin or blue plastic wrap.

8. District Science Expo
1st and 2nd place projects from 5th grade and 1st place project from 4th grade will go on to represent Jan Schiff Elementary at the District Science Exposition. Wednesday February 24 Wheeler Fieldhouse Lexington Boulevard, Sugar Land 5:00 – 6:00 Student Set-up 6:00 – 6:45 Public Viewing 6:45 – 7:30 Awards Ceremony

9. Judges and Judging We need you!
Please sign up to help judge the projects on our campus.
Judging will take place in the library on the morning of February 4, 2016.
It shouldn’t last more than 2 hours.
