Mrs Pizirusso, Mrs. Tarsia, Ms. Cumella, Mrs. D’Auria, Ms. Sharp, Mrs. Montana, Ms. Pavlovski Mrs. Notter Social Studies w/Ms. Sharp: During the month of October the Social Studies classes will be researching various Native American cultures from the Western Hemisphere. Some of the cultures we will be studying are the Pueblo, Navajo, Great Plains, Eastern Woodlands, and Seminoles. Most of this work will be conducted in the classroom, but the students are encouraged to continue their research at home. Writing w/Mrs. Tarsia and Mrs. Pizirusso: We will continue working on personal narratives and publish them using checklists to guide and support their growth. The next unit supports children in drafting feature articles collecting research and citing evidence from these sources to strengthen their pieces. Students will continue conferring with teachers, partners and in small groups. Reading w/Ms. Cumella and Mrs. D’Auria: We will be completing Unit 1 and beginning Unit 2: Tackling Complex Text. This unit is a non fiction unit requiring students to apply reading strategies to tackle complex text. Students will engage in an independent research projects requiring them to question and analyze an authors perspective, determine relationships between two or more texts and write about their topic. Read Aloud: When Lunch Fights Back ©Thrifty in Third Grade 2016 Math w/Ms. Pavlovsky and Mrs. Montana This month, students will multiply multiple digits by 1 and 2 digit numbers. Following the completion of Chapter 1, they will take the Chapter 1 Test. Chapter 2 will focus on division of whole numbers. Please help them memorize the multiplication facts. Important Dates: Oct 4 Picture Day Oct 9 School Closed Oct 13 Trip to Bay Academy Science w/Mrs. Notter In science we will finish our work using the scientific method. The scientific method has helped us to organize and analyze the data we collect. Though this process we continue to understand and learn new and interesting scientific concepts. As the unit comes to an end this month we will begin to discuss a new topic; the changes in the Earths surface. Some topics will include; types of rocks, landforms, weathering and erosion, and the causes of natural disasters ©Thrifty in Third Grade 2016
