Define the parts of the plot.
With a partner: Define the parts of the plot. What is the difference between falling action and resolution? What do we learn during the exposition? When is the conflict introduced in the story?

Plot Parts Exposition: The beginning of the story. characters and setting are introduced Rising action: action builds, conflict is introduced; suspense builds Climax: the turning point of the story. Often called the most exciting point of the story Falling action: action slows, Resolution: all conflicts are resolved, story ends

Characterization is the way an author develops a character

Direct & Indirect Characterization
Direct characterization is when an author gives specific details about a character’s personality or appearance Ex: Suzy was a shy and kind girl Ex: Suzy has brown hair and blue eyes Indirect characterization is when an author provides details about a character through the character’s speech, thoughts, or actions Reader sometimes must infer to gather indirect details about a character ex: If a mother calmly tells her son it's time for bed and he responds by saying, 'No, I don't have to do what you say! I'm staying up all night!' what can we infer?
