2 THE RISE OF THE NOVEL Economic/intellectual progress Increasing popular in Reading Circulating Libraries All Type Of Literature Growing Of The Middle Class Development Of The Prose Genre

3 The literature of the Augustan Age, was characterised by: variety of genres, economic/intellectual progress and increasing popular in reading; therefore circulating libraries acquired great importance. The culture was influenced by the growing importance of the middle class and the power of reason and individual’s trust in his own abilities.

4 Novel’sFEAUTURES: Simply way;
The story was particularly appending to the practical-minded tradesman; Sense of the reward and punishment, related to the puritan ethics of the middle classes; The hero of the novel was the “bourgeois man”. He was the mouthpieces; Contemporary names and surnames; Chronological sequence o events; Great attention was paid to the setting; The narrator never abandoned his characters.

5 WRITERS CONTRIBUTER TO THE RISE OF THE NOVEL ARE:
Daniel Defoe: creator of realistic fiction; matter of fact style; mixed adventure with psysical and psychological realism.

7 The poet more important are: Daniel Defoe, Samuel Richardson and Henry Fielding. Daniel Defoe was the first creator of realistic fiction, than wrote in a matter-of fact style, in the novel mixed adventure with physical and psychological realism.

8 DANIEL DEFOE He was born in 1660 and died in 1731;
He studied practical subject; His father wanted a religious carrier for him, but he began working as an apprentice; He started to write as a journalist from 1704 to 1713 Became famous.

queen arrested him When he was about wrote novels 1719 he published his first novel “Robinson Crusoe”.

Daniel Defoe was born in 1660 into a protestant’s family. He studied practical subject. His father wanted a religious career for him, but he began working as an apprentice. He started to write as a journalist from 1704 to 1713; in this way he became famous and well paid intellectual till the Reign of Queen Anne. She didn’t like his critical attitude, she consequently arrested him . When he was about 60, he started to write novels. In 1719 he published Robison Crusoe, his masterpiece.
