1. Sticky Note Fractions On your own: Write down a fraction.
Represent your fraction in as many ways as possible.

Keep your representations in mind as you listen to the next part of our session

<<Ask participants to write a fraction on their own even if they are in a group, then represent their fraction as many ways as possible (on sticky notes if they have them or on a single sheet if not) (Allow a few minutes)
Ask them to keep their representations in front if them as we discuss the ways we use fractions as they will need to refer to them later in the session.>>

2. Share Your Thinking
Download the Math for Teaching: Ways We Use Fractions document from the Resource Pod
Use the representations that you created for your fraction to answer the questions in three polls
Discuss challenges, surprises, and provide a bit more information if you are in a group
<<(15 – 20 minutes) Move to Poll layout.
Discuss what they will be doing in the next layout then Switch to Polls layout.
Participants should download the Meanings of Fractions File for reference.
Participants will respond to three polls in this layout –
Three polls:
Which representations did you use?
Which fractions did you use?
Which of the five constructs did you use? (I’m not sure is an option)
After the polls layout switch to the Back to our initial thinking layout
Participants will be asked to place their fraction examples in the chat pod with the construct where they believe it belongs
After this second layout we will switch back to the power point presentation.
For groups, you only get to choose a poll item once.. So if you note anything interesting results…
Share challenges/surprises/uncertainties in upper right chat pod.
Monitor pods and note points of interest in the Sharing pod. Maybe ask a question about it.
