Antarctica People in Antarctica wear warm clothing to protect themselves from the cold climate. They often use animal skins, which are a natural resource, to make their clothes. They also build homes from their natural resources.

Japan Earthquakes are common in Japan. Houses and office buildings must be built with special supports to withstand the movement of the earth. The geography of Japan affects the basic need of food and shelter.

Japan More than 75% of Japan is made up of mountains and hills which makes the land difficult to farm. Japan has a large population and cannot grow all the food it needs to feed the people. Physical features affect people’s basic needs.

China Monsoons are winds that bring heavy rains from the ocean. They have a good and bad affect on the food supply. They bring water to grow crops, but sometimes they bring too much rain and cause flooding. Homes and crops can be destroyed.

China People live in the eastern part of China where the soil is fertile. This part of the country gets plenty of rainfall. This makes it easy to grow rice and other crops.

Africa In the desert people wear long robes and head coverings . The clothing is light colored because it does not absorb as much heat from the sun. The long robes and coverings on their heads also protect them from sandstorms. Climate and physical features affect the clothing people wear.

Africa Many people live in the savannas, land where tall grasses grow. This is an area that is good for growing crops and raising livestock. People live along the coastline where fish provide the basic need for food.
