4
Outline Your Presentation
Outline your presentation at the beginning. Your outline will typically be 1 of the first 3 slides. Example, the outline for this tutorial is the 3rd slide. The outline should consist of the main points, or the titles of each slide. Follow the order of your outline so that you will not lose your audience. Tony’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH

Structuring the Slides
Good Slide Structure consist of….. Not to many points on one slide, a max of only 5 points. Don’t be long winded, use key words and phrases only. Don’t write in complete sentences, (ex previous slide) write points only. Time your presentation so you use 1 to 2 slides per minute. Tony’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
6
Structuring the Slides
Bad Slide Structure consist of….. Using to many words on a slide even if you are only making one or two points on the slide. It is hard for you audience to read and it will not keep their attention. Also as you are talking about the points on the slide they (the audience) may not be listening to you because they are busy trying to read all of the text on the slide that contains the points you are trying to make. Get it? Tony’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH

Structuring the Slides
Other bad Slide Structure practices consist of…. Going overboard with animation, its annoying to your audience. Slow sentence or word fly ins. Animation distracts the audience from the point. Be consistent with any animation you may use. Tony’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
8
Structuring the Slides
Other good Slide Structure practices consist of…. Show only one or two points at a time. This will keep the audience from reading to far ahead and not focusing on you. However, refer to previous slide. Be careful with animation. Tony’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH

Character Fonts Choosing the right font for your presentation is very important. The font can say a lot and help in your audience understanding the slide. You should use at least a size 18 font. Different size fonts are good for making main points and secondary points. For example, this is font size 22 and the font for the main point is 28, and the font size for the title is 44. Marquitta’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
10
Character Fonts Try not to make the font too small so your audience can read it from where they are. Use standard fonts that aren’t hard to read. Some examples are Arial, Times New Roman, and Tahoma. Don’t capitalize fonts unless you have to because its hard to read. Marquitta’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
11
The use of Color Color is important because it can emphasize a point.
It is important to keep the color standard & not to use too many colors. Use a font color that contrasts with the background and you will be able to read the font better. Color font on a white background works great and is easy to read. Marquitta’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
12
Slide Design Bad Slide Designs….
Backgrounds are a big part of a slide show design. It can ruin the presentation if you use the wrong background design. Use backgrounds that are not to flashy but more simple. The background design should be consistent throughout the slideshow presentation. Marquitta’s slide 2/18/2019
13
Slide Design Good Slide Design…
Use background designs that are light because they are more visible for the audience to see. Remember to keep the background design simple because a busy background design can distract the audience from the point of the presentation. Marquitta’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
14
Using Graphs It is a good idea to use graphs whenever possible.
Graphs are easier to understand & to remember data. The use of graphs makes it easier to see trends. Tony’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
15
Using Graphs – Bad Example
Tony’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
16
Using Graphs – Good Example
Remember to Title Graphs Tony’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
17
Using Graphs Avoid using minor gridlines.
Don’t use font that is to small. Title the graph. Avoid shading and distracting colors. Tony’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH

Spelling and Grammar Spelling and Grammar are always important in anything you are doing. These two items are what will allow your audience to understand or misunderstand the point that you are trying to make. Be sure to use the language your target audience will understand. Marquitta’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
19
Spelling and Grammar You can avoid spelling and grammar errors by proofing your slides. Check the presentation for spelling mistakes. Each slide should be read aloud to check for grammatical errors and misuse of words. It can be easy also to repeat a word more than once when typing so be sure to check for all these items. Marquitta’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
20
The Summary The summary slide is very important, it concludes your slide show presentation. You should use an effective and strong summary slide. This summary slide can recap the main points of your presentation. Remember that your audience is likely to remember your last words. Marquitta’s slide 2/18/2019 ITECH
