Escher & apply this style & usage of these elements within a work of art Create a tessellation by cutting & tapping cardstock & tracing it over the drawing surface with no gaps or overlaps Transform tessellation it into recognizable object(s) by drawing inside of them & adding color in a checkerboard pattern

It is identifiably distinct from its background and other nearby shapes Can be bound by an actual outline or by an implied edge that shows a difference in at least 1 of the elements of art

4 Shapes can be… Geometric or Organic Realistic, Abstract, or distorted
Instantly recognizable or non representational

Defined by a mathematical formula Draw and label 2 geometric shapes

6 Organic shapes Freeform, irregular, asymmetrical
Usually called by what it looks like Found in nature Plants Animals Geography Draw 2 organic shapes

7 Realistic or distorted
Accurately Resembles real life Exaggerated & inaccurate

8 Abstract shapes shapes that are simplified & Broken down
Could be more ambiguous or be more recognizable Icons Pictograms Logos
