2. What is a Sacred Place and Space
A sacred place and space is an area that holds a special meaning and possibly a religious significance depending on who you ask
In a religious sense a sacred place or space would be anywhere that the word of god or any other religiously activity could be celebrated or worshipped
Some places that would be considered a sacred place or space would be a church or for Christians, The Holy Land

3. Churches A church is one of the most sacred places for a Christian
A church is a place for Christians to come together for fellowship and worship
A church is where new members are initiated and rites of passage are marked
Churches can be found all around the globe and are a common area for Christians to come together in community
A church may have the same significance to all Christians but not all churches look the same. There are many different architecture styles that churches throughout the ages have been modeled after

4. Architecture
The Christian architecture has been influenced by a variety of different cultures and places.
In the early centuries, churches were mainly influenced by Roman and Greek architecture, usually basilica style churches.
As the Roman empire split, different styles started to emerge starting with the two main ones: Eastern and Western
The new styles inspired other new ones to branch out

5. Architecture- Eastern and Byzantine
Eastern churches consisted mostly of squared churches, with a large dome to symbolize heaven
Byzantine churches combined the eastern and basilica styles to form spacious churches with domes, filled with icon images.
The Hagia Sophia church in istanbul was originally a byzantine church that was the inspiration for many more churches and islamic mosques in the future.

6. Architecture - Western and Gothic
Western churches emerged as the church became more involved with clergy, and they featured ‘two-room’ churches
Another main thing western churches had was the material, which changed from wood to stone, and it allowed for bigger structures.
Gothic churches began in France, with the first one being the cathedral in Noyon.
They mainly focused on complex geometric shapes and pointed arches
